Sewing Machine Maintenance

All sewing machines need regular maintenance to continue running.  Let me help keep your machine stitching smoothly.  From vintage machines like the Singer Featherweight to modern machines, all are accepted.

I am apprenticing with the Sewing Doc Academy to become a certified sewing machine technician.  This allows me to get assistance, in the event I come across a problem where I am unsure of the solution.

Full Sewing Machine Service

Full sewing machine maintenance includes troubleshooting, cleaning and lubricating.  It may also include adjustments and repairs if needed.  During this process, the technician will remove covers as necessary, inspect, clean and lubricate the sewing machine which should extend the longevity of your sewing machine.  These appointments are longer and will require you to drop off your sewing machine and pick it up later.  The amount of time these service appointments take depends on any specific issues found during the inspection and troubleshooting process.

Quick Fix Service

Quick fix services are intended to diagnose and correct immediate minor problems that are keeping you from sewing which should be resolvable within 15-20 minutes.  These do not include removal of any covers, cleaning or lubrication.  These appointments are billed at $100.00 per hour with a half hour minimum charge.


Service Pricing

Vintage Machine Service – $95.00 plus any necessary parts

Modern and Computerized Machine Service – $129.00 plus any necessary parts

Quick Fix Service – $100.00 per hour – minimum charge of 1/2 an hour.

Note: Most sewing machine issues can be resolved with a full service.  Any quick-fix customers who bring their machine back within 90 days of the quick-fix, will receive a discount on their full sewing machine service.

Singer Featherweights
Singer produced their Featherweight sewing machines from 1933 until 1968. These are models 221, 221K, 221J and 222K. These machines are highly sought after because even after all of the years since their production, they still often sew like a dream.
Other Vintage Machines
Vintage sewing machines usually have a metal body and few, if any, removable covers. These older machines sew smoothly and evenly and often have many of the same simple decorative stiches found on modern machines. If you regularly maintain your vintage machine it will last forever.
Modern Sewing Machines

Modern sewing machines have a cover that can be removed.  These should be cleaned out to remove lint and debris by a technician.  Often these machines have more stich options than their vintage counterparts. 

Computerized Sewing Machines

Computerized sewing machines use circuit boards to control the different stitches and their covers should only be removed by a technician.  These machines often have a large number of decorative stitches available.  These can range between basic computerized machine to more advanced.
